Just because a Rottie has a short coat does not mean that it should not be groomed. I groom my neighbor's Rottie who is a giant sweetheart and just loves the attention (my neighbor is an atypical Rottie owner - 83 and tiny). Get a mitt-like glove for grooming, use only shampoo made for dogs, oatmeal is preferred as it helps the coat, and bathe the dog, clean the ears, check the teeth, etc. These dogs will also shed like crazy, so even a simple daily swipe with a mitt or even damp microfiber cloth will pull lots of short hairs that otherwise will end up on you.

Using a brush/comb while bathing will only pull out the bigger ticks (I know; gross). Use a flea and Tick Shampoo, lather up the dog (softly hold the muzzle so s/he won't shake it off) and let the lather sit on the dog for a few minutes. Rinse the dog thoroughly (enough of the medication in the shampoo will remain on the skin), and actually dry the dog (I use a few old towels that I then wash in a bleach and water mix to kill Off Any tick eggs), then add the flea preventative AFTER the dog is thoroughly dry.

You will also need to disinfect the dog's bedding (again, place separately in wash with a 1-10 part bleach-water mix) as well as treat the yard to prevent re-infestation of ticks (we use the basic Ortho mix found at most home improvement stores that will kill ticks in the yard.
