I think my pup stepped on a pebble?
She has a little cut on her paw, maybe about an eigth of an inch wide and a sixteenth of an inch tall. It's on one of her pads on her toes. It's really red, but not bleeding and it never did bleed.
I will take her to the vet if I have to, but what can I do to help fight off infection? I've already tried putting Neosporin on it, but I don't know what else to do.
She was limping yesterday when I tried gaiting her (Dog Show training), but she's seemed to stop the limp already.
If the cut is not bleeding, then after a thorough cleansing and some antibacterial ointment such as neosporin, and if the paw is Not swollen or the wound does not look infected and there are not hanging pieces of her foot pad, then the area will heal quite fast on its own. She may keep licking it because that is what dog's do but I would try to keep her from doing this. You can even lightly wrap her paw in Vet wrap to keep the area clean and dry. Dogs often cut their pads and as long as the wound is Not deep or infected, they will heal on their own.
